Eliot refers to a second kingdom, "death's other kingdom" (see ). If (in line 20) is related to the fallen, sinful world of the INFERNO and PURGATORIO, this second kingdom is related to the PARADISO, and the aspect of this perfect world which Dante glimpses in the closing books of the PURGATORIO, where we read of Dante's arrival at the summit of the Mount of Purgatory, at the top of which is the Earthly Paradise, the Garden of Eden where he meets Beatrice, formerly his beloved on earth, now a figure of blessedness, spiritual beauty, and revelation.
